April 6th, 2018

On Saturday 14th April 2018 St. Laurence’s GAA will be facilitating a CARDIAC SCREENING Clinic conducted by Advanced Medical Services (AMS) .

The CARDIAC SCREENING Clinic will begin at 9.30AM and each screening will take approximately 20 minutes. The Clinic will be run out of St. Laurence’s Community Complex on the day.

This will be an Onsite Doctor Led Cardiac Screening Service that is ultimately aimed at reducing the incidence of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS). AMS’s cardiac screening service is based on the recommendations of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the international Olympic Committee (IOC). Approximately 2 young people under 35 die per week in Ireland from SADS. The GAA’s Medical, Scientific and Welfare committee advise that the most effective way to identify risk is for players over the age of 14 to undergo cardiac screening on one occasion. It is also advised that this process be repeated before the age of 25.
